How To Do A Yearlong Poetry Challenge

Any type of poem will do, but for this challenge - HAIKU

Oh how I love haiku! The simple complexity of words, the push for concision, the delicate expression of often harsh truths, a full directory of literary devices, and the exquisite moments of enlightenment. What’s not to love?

My deep devotion to haiku started when I was a teenager and I have been using it as a writing practice ever since. If I have writer’s block, I write haiku. If I’m bored with a few minutes to spare, I write haiku. Sometimes, I simply must write haiku as they appear fully formed in my conscious mind and distract me until I do.

I know writing a haiku every day for a year can be a rewarding and fulfilling practice.

So, I challenge you!

I challenge you to write at least one haiku every day for a year! (Or any form of poetry you love!)

Do it as a celebration of self-reflection, creativity, and self-expression. You will not be disappointed!

Here is a suggested process to help you stay committed and inspired throughout the year:

3. Create a Routine:

Establish a specific time and place for writing your haikus. It could be in the morning, during your lunch break, or before bed. Having a consistent routine will help you stay disciplined and make writing a haiku a daily habit.

4. Find Inspiration:

Seek inspiration from the world around you. Take walks in nature, observe your surroundings, and pay attention to the small details. Read haikus written by other poets to spark ideas and find inspiration. You can also explore different themes or topics each week to keep your writing fresh.
