4 Story Writing Resources Just For You!
Do you love stories? Do you teach narrative at school? Do you know someone who could do with a creative writing helping hand? Then you’re in the right place!
I just love narratives! Reading them, writing them and pulling them apart. I admire the cleverness of the writer in their use of devices, the perfectly curved story arcs in the characters and plot, and most of all, the potential for fun, humour and silliness!
Creative Writing is often thought of as tricky, both to do and to teach. As a primary school teacher I have seen many programmes used in schools over the years, and teachers bending over backwards to try to create that elusive creative spark in their students.
I am all about pushing creative boundaries whilst also making creating simple, fun and easy. I don’t think there are any truly simple solutions, but perfect practice makes perfect, so with that in mind, I have created a ton of resources just for you!
Inspire your creative mind AND the minds of your students, whilst making the whole process fun and easy.
Creative Prompts & How-Tos
Firstly, I have created a range of eBooks, each with a year’s worth of creative prompts and including all the templates and detailed instruction you’d need for 365 days of boundary pushing creativity. I also have a range of eBooks with explicit instruction on how to write narratives, different forms of poetry, and how to use literary devices. Writing every day is a great way to work the creative muscle and to both express your thoughts and feelings, and to spark creativity.
2. Host Your Own Creative Competition
Secondly, I have created 2 resources for teachers, Write Like A Star and the Spectacular Creative Challenge, to make running creative competitions at your school fun and easy, including ALL the templates and instructions needed, as well as providing the prizes for the winners for FREE. Whilst not every child likes to compete, for some it is the spark that ignites their creative spirit. Completing a challenge and perhaps being published in a school book as a result, can really boost your creative confidence and pride.
3. Educational Picture Books
Thirdly, I’ve created a range of picture books aimed at middle primary that make writing fun and easy, including Frank’s Tank and W.inc & R.O.L.i’s Spectacular Start. Each book takes a dive into an element of English with light-hearted positivity and humour. I’m a firm believer that you can never have too many books, especially as a child, and especially those that not only delight and inspire, but offer education too. There is much research to support the benefits of reading to your child every day, both in and out of the classroom.
**Both of these books are also available as an animated read-aloud story on my YouTube channel.
4. Animated Videos
And last, but not least, I have created video resources for you to use with your children that not only encourage writing, but also break down the elements of writing in a fun and engaging way with cute animations and clever characters. Not every child gets a thrill from reading a traditionally styled book, but most LOVE watching video. These videos are designed to reach not only the mainstream readers, but those hard to reach budding creatives as well.
…and why have I done this?
I care very deeply about English education
Everyone deserves awesome resources that make their day easier and more fun.
My class loves my creations…
…and I want to share the love
Keep pushing your creative boundaries and enjoy your creative journey!
